- Fixed / long-range
Read range: 0–20 m
The U640-M is a long-range integrated UHF RFID reader with a 10 dBi antenna in a narrow 240 × 420 mm portrait panel. It is rated to read EPC Gen2 tags beyond 12 m, depending on tag and site, for vehicle entry lanes and yard gates that report over Wiegand 26/34, RS232/RS485, USB or TCP/IP.
Available versions
The U640-M puts its 10 dBi antenna in a 240 × 420 × 56 mm portrait housing, which suits a narrow gate post, a barrier cabinet or a gantry upright where a 444 mm square panel will not fit. The reader electronics sit in a box on the rear plate, with the cables leaving through glands at the bottom.
The clamp bracket takes poles of 30–50 mm diameter, and the installation notes are based on a 2.2 m pole. An arrow on the rear plate marks the top edge.
With a rated read range beyond 12 m, the U640-M can identify an approaching vehicle before it reaches the barrier. That gives the controller time to check the tag and raise the arm, which can cut waiting time at the gate. Suitable sites include fleet depots, logistics yards, truck gates and residential entries.
Long range also means the reader can see tags you did not intend: vehicles in the exit lane, or parked cars near the gate. Lower the RF power, aim the panel down the lane and use the trigger input with a loop detector to keep reads to the vehicle in position. More on system design in parking and vehicle access; the read range guide explains what limits distance.
Choose the U640-M for a lighter, narrower reader (1.55 kg, 240 mm wide) on a lane where 12 m is enough. Choose the U650-M (12 dBi, 0–20 m, 444 × 444 mm) for wide entrances or when the reader has to sit well back from the lane.

Clamp the bracket to a 30–50 mm pole, fix the reader with the arrow on the rear plate pointing up, and aim the panel down the approach lane.
Connect a DC 12 V, 3 A supply and the data link: Wiegand D0/D1 to the parking controller, RS485 to a PC, or Ethernet on the U640-N.
In the demo software, start at a moderate RF power, choose continuous or triggered reading, and wire the trigger input to the loop detector if used.
Drive tagged vehicles through both lanes and past the gate, then raise or lower RF power until only the intended lane is read.
It is rated to read beyond 12 m. Actual distance depends on the tag type and size, where it is fitted on the vehicle, the RF power you set (0–30 dBm) and the site. Test with your own tags at the final mounting position.
The clamp bracket fits poles of 30–50 mm diameter, and the installation notes are based on a 2.2 m pole. Mount it with the arrow on the rear plate pointing up.
At full power it can. Lower the RF power, aim the panel down the lane rather than across it, and use triggered reading with a loop detector so the reader only reports the vehicle in position.
No relay output is listed for this reader. It sends the tag number to a parking or access controller over Wiegand, or to software over RS232/RS485, USB or TCP/IP, and that system switches the barrier.
