UHF U640-M+1 variant
10 dBi Long-Range UHF RFID Reader, 12 m+, Wiegand 26/34, RS485
- USB
- RS232
- RS485
- Fixed / long-range
Read range: Beyond 12 m
The U650-M is the highest-gain reader in our integrated UHF series: a 12 dBi antenna in a 444 × 444 mm panel for wide vehicle gates, fleet depots and freight yards. It reads EPC Gen2 tags at 0–20 m (up to 35 m in high-power mode, tag and site permitting) and outputs Wiegand 26/34, RS232/RS485, USB or TCP/IP.
Available versions
Pick the U650-M when the tag has to be read from far away: a wide yard gate with trucks entering at an angle, a bus or fleet depot where the reader is mounted on a building wall, or a freight entrance where the reader cannot stand next to the lane. At 0–20 m it has the longest rated range in the series.
For a single lane read at a few meters, a lower-gain model such as the U630-M is easier to confine. The reader type guide helps if you are still choosing between an integrated reader and other formats.
Radio rules limit radiated power (EIRP or ERP), which adds antenna gain to the output power. With a 12 dBi antenna, full 30 dBm output is likely to exceed the limit in your country, so set RF power to your local rule first; see UHF frequency bands by country. Then aim the panel along the lane, use the trigger input so the reader reports only the vehicle at the gate, and check that tags in neighboring lanes or on parked vehicles are not read.
The 35 m high-power figure is a best case that depends on the tag and an open site. Plan the layout on the 0–20 m working range and test with your own tags.
At 444 × 444 × 74 mm and 2.55 kg, the U650-M presents a large surface to the wind. The pole bracket takes poles of 40–80 mm diameter, and the installation notes are based on a 2.2 m pole; choose a pole and footing sized for your site. The electronics box on the rear plate has two cable glands on its lower edge, and an arrow marks the top.

Fit the pole bracket to a 40–80 mm pole and mount the panel with the top-edge arrow up, aimed along the approach rather than across the lanes.
Connect a DC 12 V, 3 A supply and the data link: Wiegand D0/D1 to the controller, RS485 for long runs to a PC, or Ethernet on the U650-N.
In the demo software, set RF power within your local radio limit, choose triggered or continuous reading and confirm the frequency band.
Walk the site with tagged vehicles, including neighboring lanes and parking spaces, and reduce power or re-aim until only the intended zone is read.
Treat 0–20 m as the working range. The 35 m figure applies in high-power mode with a suitable tag and a clear site, and your local radio limit may not allow full power with a 12 dBi antenna. Test with your own tags before you fix the layout.
RF power is adjustable from 0 to 30 dBm. Radio rules limit radiated power, which adds the 12 dBi antenna gain to the output power, so check your country's limit and set the reader below it. Our frequency bands guide lists the regional bands.
The bracket takes poles of 40–80 mm diameter, and the installation notes are based on a 2.2 m pole. The reader weighs 2.55 kg and measures 444 × 444 × 74 mm, so size the pole and footing for wind at your site.
Choose the U650-M for wide entrances or when the reader must sit well back from the lane (0–20 m). Choose the U640-M for a lighter, narrower 240 × 420 mm reader rated to read beyond 12 m.
