Frequently asked questions

How do I choose between 125kHz, 13.56MHz and UHF readers?

Match the reader to the card. 125kHz LF readers read EM4100/TK4100 proximity cards at a few centimetres; 13.56MHz HF readers read MIFARE, NTAG and other ISO 14443A cards (one model reads ISO 15693); UHF readers read EPC Gen2 labels from centimetres on a desk up to several metres with an integrated long-range reader.

Which readers work without any driver?

The USB, USB-C (OTG) and Bluetooth keyboard-emulation models type the card number at the cursor like a keyboard, so they work in Excel, a browser or other software that accepts typed input, without a driver. See the keyboard-emulation hub for the full list.

Which readers connect to an access controller?

Use a Wiegand reader: the wall-mount proximity reader outputs Wiegand 26 or 34, the QR code + RFID readers add RS232/RS485, and the UHF long-range readers output Wiegand 26/34 as well as RS232/RS485 for gates and parking barriers.

Can readers be configured to order?

Standard models can be configured for output format and, on some models, frequency band or display language. Private label and other OEM/ODM changes are scoped per project — see the OEM/ODM page and send us your requirements.
