Why integrators choose the H155-U

  • ISO 15693, not ISO 14443A — reads ICODE 2 and similar vicinity tags, which ISO 14443A-only MIFARE and NTAG readers are not built to read.
  • UID for your records — the tag UID is output as a 10-digit decimal by default, ready to link to a book, file or asset record.
  • Staff-desk format — angled 110 × 80 × 26 mm housing with a recess that positions cards and small tagged items.
  • Up to 80 mm — read time under 200 ms and a read interval under 0.5 s.
  • Format options — custom output format and an optional DIP-switch format selector on request.

Why ISO 15693 needs its own reader

Both ISO 14443A and ISO 15693 run at 13.56 MHz, but they are different air interfaces. A MIFARE or NTAG reader such as the H150-U is not built to read ICODE labels, and the H155-U is not built for MIFARE cards. ISO 15693 vicinity tags are common on library books, document folders, archive boxes and asset labels. Check which standard your tags use before ordering; the ISO 14443 vs ISO 15693 guide shows how to tell them apart.

Vicinity tags can be read at longer distances by large gate or shelf antennas. On this desktop reader, expect up to 80 mm depending on tag size and surroundings.

What the H155-U does, and what it does not

The H155-U identifies a tag by its UID. At a staff desk that is usually all you need: present the item, capture the UID, and link it to the record in your library, document or asset software.

It does not read or change the data stored in the tag's user memory, and it does not set security bits. It is therefore not a self-checkout station, a security gate or a shelf-inventory reader. For bulk reading at a distance, the tags and the reader type have to be chosen for that job.

The reader connects over USB. Tell us whether your software expects keyboard input at the cursor or reads a COM port, and the USB mode for your order is confirmed in the quotation.

Card, tag and system compatibility

Works with

  • ✓ICODE 2 (I-CODE 2) ISO 15693 tags and labels (UID read)
  • ✓Similar ISO 15693 vicinity tags: confirm with a sample
  • ✓Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 10; Linux
  • ✓Library, document and asset software that stores the tag UID

Not designed for

  • ✕Reading or writing tag user memory or security bits; only the UID is output
  • ✕ISO 14443A cards such as MIFARE Classic and NTAG: use the H150-U
  • ✕ISO 15693 chips not named in the specification, such as the ICODE SLIX family, until tested with your sample
  • ✕Self-checkout, security-gate or shelf-inventory reading

Integration in 4 steps

  1. 1

Tell us whether your software reads a COM port or expects keyboard input at the cursor; the USB mode is confirmed in your quotation.

  2. 2

Connect the reader to the host with the supplied 1450 mm USB cable.

  3. 3

Present the tagged item flat over the reader. The green LED and buzzer confirm the read and the UID is output as a 10-digit decimal by default.

  4. 4

Store the UID against the item record in your library, document or asset system.

H155-U FAQ

Can the H155-U read MIFARE or NTAG cards?

No. It reads ISO 15693 tags such as ICODE 2. For MIFARE Classic and NTAG (ISO 14443A), use the H150-U in the same housing or another 13.56MHz model.

Does the H155-U read ICODE SLIX or SLIX2 tags?

The specification names ICODE 2 and similar vicinity tags. SLIX-family tags are ISO 15693 but are not named, so send sample tags and we test them before you order.

What read range should I expect from the H155-U?

Up to 80 mm on the desktop antenna, depending on tag size and surroundings. Small labels read closer than card-size tags, and metal nearby reduces range.

Is the H155-U suitable for library self-checkout?

It suits staff desks that need to identify a tagged item by its UID. It does not read or write the library data stored in the tag or change security bits, so it is not a self-checkout or gate reader.

Is the H155-U output decimal or hex?

A 10-digit decimal by default. ISO 15693 tags carry an 8-byte UID (16 hex characters); if your system stores the full UID, tell us and the matching output format is confirmed in your quotation.
