U520-M Handheld UHF RFID Reader with OLED Display, 0–35 cm

The U520-M is a handheld UHF RFID reader with a ring antenna, one scan button and a 0.91-inch OLED that shows each tag ID. It reads ISO 18000-6C tags at 0–35 cm, keeps up to 128 records and uploads them in real time or as a batch over USB 2.0, 2.4G wireless or Bluetooth.

Why integrators choose the U520-M

  • Tag ID on the device — the 0.91-inch OLED shows each read, so staff can check a tag without a phone or PC nearby.
  • Real-time or batch upload — send each read to the host at once, or store up to 128 records and upload them later.
  • Wired or wireless upload — USB 2.0 cable, 2.4G wireless receiver or Bluetooth; the links fitted to your units are confirmed in your quotation.
  • Ring antenna, one button — reads ISO 18000-6C UHF tags at 0–35 cm, depending on the tag.
  • 120 g, battery powered — 3.7 V rechargeable lithium battery; the reader powers off after 120 s idle.
  • Display language — English as standard; other languages on request for private-label projects.

Offline tag checks with an OLED handheld

The U520-M suits checks where no host is within reach: a storeroom walk-round, a yard of returnable containers, a tool crib or a rack of IT equipment. The operator aims the ring antenna at the tag, presses the button and reads the ID on the screen. Reads can be kept in memory and uploaded at the end of the round.

Memory holds 128 records, which fits spot checks and short rounds rather than full stock counts. For longer sessions, pair the reader and use real-time upload so each read goes straight to the host. The 0–35 cm range is for pointing at one item at a time; for reads up to 3 m, look at the U550-M. The fixed vs integrated vs handheld guide covers when a handheld is the wrong tool.

U520-M, U510-B or A520-M?

Three readers look alike or overlap, but they answer different needs:

ModelReadsHow the data reaches youRead range
U520-MUHF ISO 18000-6C tagsOn the OLED; stored (128 records) or uploaded by USB, 2.4G or Bluetooth0–35 cm
U510-BUHF EPC Gen2 tagsTyped into the app on a paired phone, tablet or PC; no screen0–50 cm
A520-M134.2kHz FDX-B and EMID animal tagsOn the OLED; stored or uploaded by USB, 2.4G or BluetoothGlass tube > 8 cm; 30 mm ear tag > 20 cm

The A520-M uses the same ring housing, so distributors can offer one look for both item tagging and animal ID. Choose by the tag, not the housing: UHF labels on goods need the U520-M, livestock ear tags and pet microchips need the A520-M.

Card, tag and system compatibility

Works with

  • ✓ISO 18000-6C (EPC Gen2) UHF labels and tags: tag ID read at 0–35 cm
  • ✓Upload to a host by USB 2.0 cable, 2.4G wireless receiver or Bluetooth
  • ✓Offline use: up to 128 stored records for later batch upload

Not designed for

  • ✕Writing or encoding UHF tags: use the U120-U desktop reader/writer
  • ✕134.2kHz animal ear tags and microchips: use the A520-M in the same housing
  • ✕13.56MHz NFC / MIFARE cards: use the H510-B
  • ✕App development through an SDK: none is documented for this model

Integration in 4 steps

  1. 1

Charge the built-in 3.7 V battery, switch the reader on and aim the ring antenna at the tag, within 0–35 cm.

  2. 2

For live data, connect the reader to the host by USB cable, 2.4G receiver or Bluetooth and use real-time upload.

  3. 3

For offline rounds, read up to 128 tags into memory and upload the batch when you are back at the host.

  4. 4

Before a rollout, test a sample unit with your own tags and host software to confirm read range and the upload format.

U520-M FAQ

Does the U520-M need a phone or PC to read tags?

No. It reads and shows the tag ID on its 0.91-inch OLED and can store up to 128 records. A host is needed only to receive the data, by USB 2.0, 2.4G wireless or Bluetooth.

What read range should I expect?

0–35 cm, depending on the tag. Small labels, and tags on metal or liquid-filled items, read at shorter distances, so test with your own tags. Our UHF read range guide explains the factors.

Can the U520-M read animal ear tags?

Not 134.2kHz FDX-B tags. The A520-M uses the same ring housing for FDX-B and EMID animal tags; the U520-M reads UHF ISO 18000-6C tags only.

Can the display show my language and brand?

English is standard and the display language can be customized. Language, housing color and the Bluetooth device name for private-label orders are confirmed in your quotation.
