Q: Does the H310-U keypad need its own driver or software?

No. It enumerates as a USB human-input device, so both key presses and card numbers appear in the field that has the cursor, on Windows XP to 10, Linux and Android.

Q: Can the H310-U store points or value on the card?

No. The H310-U only reads the card number. Balances, points and member data must live in your POS or membership software, keyed to that number.

Q: What read range does the H310-U have?

Cards up to 50 mm and key fobs up to 15 mm, with about 30 mm recommended for consistent reads. The short range suits counters where one card is presented at a time.

Q: Can the H310-U read bank cards for payment?

No. It reads the UID of ISO 14443A cards such as MIFARE Classic and NTAG203 for membership and loyalty use. It is not a payment terminal.

Q: Is there a 125kHz version of the H310-U?

Yes. The L310-U uses the same keypad housing for 125kHz EM4100 / TK4100 cards.

How the H310-U is used at the counter

At a membership desk, canteen or restaurant till, the operator usually does two things per customer: identify the member and enter a value. With the H310-U both happen on one device. The member presents a MIFARE Classic or NTAG203 card, the 10-digit number and Enter open the member record, and the operator keys in the amount, quantity or item code. The F1 to F5 keys give the operator extra shortcuts in software that supports function keys.

The H310-U only reads the card number. Balances, points and stored value stay in your software, keyed to that number. It is not a payment terminal and does not read bank cards.

Integration notes

Card reads and key presses both arrive as keyboard input, so your software sees them the same way. A card read arrives as a fixed-length 10-digit number followed by Enter, so an application that needs to tell reads from hand-typed amounts can check the length of the entry.

For consistent reads, present cards within about 30 mm of the reading area. Key fobs need to come closer, up to 15 mm.

H310-U or L310-U?
