UHF Integrated Long-Range Readers

U620-M UHF Integrated RFID Reader, 8 dBi, Wiegand 26/34, RS232/RS485

The U620-M is an integrated UHF RFID reader with an 8 dBi antenna in a 240 × 240 mm panel, for parking entries, loading bays and staff gates that report to a Wiegand controller or PC software. It reads EPC Gen2 tags at 0–5 m (up to 8 m in high-power mode) over Wiegand 26/34, RS232/RS485 or USB.

Why integrators choose the U620-M

  • 8 dBi antenna, 0–5 m rated — the same rated range as the 7 dBi model, with more antenna gain for tags that are hard to read at that distance.
  • Two interface builds — U620-M with Wiegand 26/34, RS232, RS485 and USB, or U620-N with TCP/IP Ethernet added.
  • Fixed-frequency option — run on a fixed channel or a software-programmed frequency plan to suit the site and local rules.
  • RF power 0–30 dBm — trim the field in software so the reader covers its own lane and not the next one.
  • Triggered or continuous — one trigger input starts reading on an external signal; otherwise the reader scans continuously.
  • Mid-size panel — 240 × 240 × 50 mm and 1.2 kg, between the compact U610-M and the 257 mm U630-M, for pole or wall mounting on a bracket.

Why pick the 8 dBi panel

The U620-M and the U610-M share a 0–5 m rated range. The difference is the antenna. A higher-gain antenna concentrates the RF field into a narrower beam, which gives more signal margin on the boresight and less spill to the sides. That extra margin can help with tags that are hard to read at a given distance, such as windshield tags behind coated glass or tags that pass the panel at an angle.

It suits parking entry lanes read at 3–5 m, loading bay doors and staff vehicle gates. For a longer approach, step up to the U630-M.

Ordering the right build

  • U620-M (N-type): Wiegand 26/34, RS232, RS485 and USB. Choose it when the reader feeds an access or parking controller, or a PC over a serial line.
  • U620-N (E-type): Wiegand 26/34, RS232, TCP/IP and USB. Choose it when the reader reports to a server on the site LAN. If you need RS485 and Ethernet on the same reader, say so in your RFQ and we confirm it before you order.
  • Band: 902–928 MHz or 865–868 MHz, set per order. Check your country in our UHF frequency bands guide.

Power and cabling

Plan a DC 12 V supply rated at 3 A. Run Wiegand to the controller's reader input, or RS485 when the PC is far from the gate, because RS485 handles long cable runs better than RS232. Our interface guide compares cable distances and wiring.

Card, tag and system compatibility

Works with

  • ✓ISO 18000-6C / EPC Gen2 passive UHF tags: windshield tags, cards, labels and hard tags
  • ✓Access and parking controllers with a Wiegand 26 or 34 input
  • ✓PC software over RS232, RS485 or USB, using the SDK
  • ✓Server software over TCP/IP Ethernet (U620-N)
  • ✓902–928 MHz or 865–868 MHz operation, ordered per band

Not designed for

  • ✕125 kHz or 13.56 MHz access cards — see access control readers
  • ✕Active (battery-powered) tags
  • ✕Writing tags over Wiegand — use the SDK or demo software over serial, USB or TCP/IP
  • ✕Controllers that expect Wiegand 98 — confirm before ordering
  • ✕Lanes that need reads beyond 8 m — see the U640-M

Integration in 4 steps

  1. 1

Mount the panel on a pole or wall bracket beside the lane, angled toward the point where the tag passes.

  2. 2

Connect a DC 12 V, 3 A supply, then Wiegand D0/D1 to the controller, RS485 or RS232 to the PC, or Ethernet on the U620-N.

  3. 3

In the demo software, set RF power, fixed-frequency or programmed mode, and continuous or triggered reading; wire the trigger input if a loop detector or photo-beam starts each read.

  4. 4

Drive a tagged vehicle or cart through the lane, adjust power until only the intended lane is read, then connect your software through the SDK.

U620-M FAQ

What is the difference between the U620-M and the U610-M?

Both are rated for 0–5 m (up to 8 m in high-power mode). The U620-M has an 8 dBi antenna in a 240 × 240 × 50 mm, 1.2 kg housing and runs on DC 12 V. The U610-M has a 7 dBi antenna in a smaller 215 mm, 0.8 kg housing and adds Wiegand 98.

Which Wiegand formats does the U620-M output?

Wiegand 26 and Wiegand 34. If your controller expects another length, send its input format with your RFQ and we confirm what the reader can send.

Does the U620-N keep the RS485 port?

Plan on Wiegand 26/34, RS232, TCP/IP and USB for the U620-N. RS485 on the E-type build is confirmed at order, so state it in your RFQ if you need both RS485 and Ethernet.

Can the U620-M read a tag through a car windshield?

Usually yes, with an EPC Gen2 windshield tag inside the 0–5 m rated range. Some windshields have a metallic coating that blocks UHF, so fit the tag in the uncoated area and test on a real vehicle before rollout.
